VARIETY SHOW:

What a brilliant night of entertainment we had last Saturday. Karen's Speech & Drama class opened the show, with elves looking for more pay !! Linda's Irish Dancing class were looking fab in their green/white costumes and the boys had their Christmas jumpers. They were so well prepared. Anita Bennis played her violin but also gave a fab demo of 'whistling', which you do not hear very often nowadays. Anita was part of the Munster Comhaltas group who played at the opening of the Eurovision in Millstreet.! We had lovely tunes from solo musicians, Tom O'Flaherty (13) on violin and Eoin Butler on guitar. It was great to have some of the 'Strictly' dancers, thanks to Leah & Kayleigh Twomey, Colm Noonan & Rachel & Ger for coming.

We had the Liskennett Ladies who sang a trio of songs for us - Bernice -' These Boots were made for Walkin' , Helen - Breathless & Susan - 'Walkin on Sunshine' . Rudy Picha, who came 11th in the World championships last year gave a wonderful display of hard-shoe dancing. The children sang a selection of Christmas carols & were in great voice. It helped as a rehearsal for their up-coming carol service.

Thanks to the trio from Emly who travelled all the way, to entertain us with their comedy sketch - Patsy, Esther & Jonas, it was very much appreciated. The local drama gang gave an insight into what might have gone on when the voting posters were going up.? Richard O'Donoghue, just flew in from Brussels in time to make an appearance. !! We had a beautiful duet from Trisha Noonan & Rob Sheerin with the famous, 'Fairytale of N. York' . To finish the night the Choir sang a few Christmassy numbers with help from the children, who joined them on stage.

Thanks to all who helped out & especially Rob Sheerin who set up and managed the sound system. The Raffle prizes were very kindly sponsored by A&R Planthire & Contracting (Noonan Bros) & O'Gorman's Foodstore.

GRANAGH PLAYERS:

Storm Darragh won't keep the Players from rehearsing, they battle their way to the Hall, no matter what..! Lucky, there was no marquee set up... it would definitely have been taken.! At the moment I'm counting about twenty people in the cast. Some haven't made an appearance yet, Donal Griffin has been sharing his talents with Banogue Drama group in 'Second Confession'. Being cast as the doctor, he has been using some very big medical words..!!

Kieran Larkin is caught up with 'Second Confession' also, cast as a very young PP, he must be well in with the Bishop.

Teresa will show up at a later date, I'm nearly sure.. although no point giving her a script as she makes it up as she goes along !! Our band ' The Premier Aces' who will be the main act in the marquee, haven't met each other yet but any day now they will get together. Musical Director/Keyboards - Roisín Lavery. On Guitars, Eoin Butler & Kieran Larkin & on drums we will have our own Liam Darcy. Music of the late 70s will be on the menu..

Delighted to welcome two new members to this production, Sinead Griffin & Ian Sheehy, we are thrilled they joined us. We welcome back previous members, from career breaks & sabbaticals, Ashlinn Herlihy, Sean English & Tony Sheehan, really glad to have ye back again.

The Players ask people to note, there is strong language in this play script. Send 'em Home Sweatin' -Performance weekend dates - Jan 24th, 25th, 26th, Jan 31st, Feb 1st & Feb 2nd at 8pm. Shop & Raffle nightly.

As Santa letters flood into post offices worldwide, Canadian post office workers gave Santa his own postal code.

Contrary to popular belief, "Xmas" is not a trendy attempt to "take Christ out of Christmas". "Christianity" was spelled "Xianity" . X, or Chi, is the Greek first letter of "Christ" . The abbreviation "XPmas" was used to reference the holiday, which was later shortened to "Xmas."
